The Lafite Rothschild 2018 is composed of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.5% Merlot and 0.5% Petit Verdot and has 13.3% alcohol. Deep purple-black in color, it needs a little stirring to unlock heady aromas of blackcurrant cordial, roasted plums and black cherry compote with an undertone of dark chocolate, liquorice, cast iron skillet, cedar chest and fertile loam, plus of a puff of pencil lead. The delicately crafted, medium-bodied palate oozes class, with layers of mineral-laden black fruit and exquisitely ripe tannins, uniquely Lafite, finishing with epic length and depth. This simply stunning and delicately crafted expression from 2018 with its uniquely evocative imprint of Lafite will require 7 to 8 years in bottle, and should then continue to inspire awe for the next 40 years or more.
